Back in Action

The busy streets of Tokyo were interrupted by high-pitched yelling. “Freeze! That was an order!!” Pushing through the crowd, Kai Kizui chases a thief down. “I SAID freeze! What, are you deaf?!” In fear, the man runs out into the street, dodging cars and shoving innocents. The cars screeched off the road, Kai simply hopped into the air and slid off the hood of them. Think you’re smart, huh? There’s more than one way to catch a baddie! “Mai! You there?” She yelled as she continued her pursuit. The comm radio on her hip began to beep. Static and yelling came out of the old speakers. “Kai- Kai! Where are you?” Her screeching voice shocked Kai, who muttered back. “Uh- let’s see...I think south Mizu st. Subject is heading straight to you, heads up!!” Her sneakers slipped on the wet pavement as she pulled out her gun. “Damnit! I said Freeze! Just do it!!” Her steps quickened down the alleyway. I’ll just have to do this the hard way! Mai, here comes one! In a matter of seconds, the slick pavement got the best of Kai, sending her forward on her face. “Shit! No! Mai!!!!”

“That’s as far as you go, sir!” Mai’s emerald green eyes looked down the barrel of her gun. “Now freeze! I am Mai Reku, officer of the N.T.P.D-“ The man pulled out a crowbar and walked closer to Mai. “Now you see little girl, I have a job to do, and It would be a shame if I have to beat you to a pulp.”A snicker came across his face and just before he raised his arm, a gunshot rang through the alley. He fell to the ground. Behind him, Kai was laying on her back, arm extended, with her gun smoking. Whew, that was a close one!

“Kai! Good work! “ Mai walked passed the guy on the floor and went over to see her partner. “Wow! That was spec-“ She kept talking, jabbering off her mouth and Kai just sat there, staring up into the clouds. This kid....she shouldn’t be a cop! She’s too happy!!! Good shot? Man, I don’t know how many more times I can stand listening to this...I’m only 17 and I want to retire. The girl was still talking when Kai saw movement out of the corner of her eye. “Mai! He’s getting away!!” Mai turned around just in time for Kai to pull out her gun, again. One kneecap isn’t enough? Well take this, bastard! She fired, taking out his other knee. “Now stay put!!” By the time Kai actually got up, the backup was already there, cuffing the guy and reading him his rights.
“Kai.....”
Kai’s head snapped up. What in the-  “Makaze? Is that you?” It is him? Oh, my sweet Makaze! He’s so cute!! Her eyes lit up as she pushed past the still-talking Mai. “Makaze!” A tall boy in a white lab coat stood amongst the police. He was smiling, and before he could react, Kai’s arms were wrapped around his neck. Suffering from shock, he stuttered. “Kai- I know it has been a long time, but you don’t have to get all mushy!” Their laughing filled the alley. “My, you haven’t changed at all...” He let go of her and smiled. “You are still as beautiful as-“
“Makaze! Hey, buddy ol’ pal! Where ya been?” Mai walked in the middle of them, a smile pasted on her face.  “Hey, you missed it, Quick draw over there blew one of V’s thugs away. She saved my life! Of course, I was doing a good job and then...” Behind her, Kai’s jaw dropped. That little brat! I haven’t seen my koi in a long time and I can’t even get 10 seconds alone with him! I almost got a kiss....talk about sexual angst! I’m chock full of it! I’m like a sexual angst machine!!
Her bright blue eyes began to squint with anger and she simply shoved Mai out of the way. “I’ll quick draw you! Don’t you call me that!” Her fists were balled up at her sides and she continued. “Mai...oh! Just you wait! Wait till we get to the station.....I’ll-“ Makaze’s hand came down on her shoulder. “Kai. I need to talk to you later on- over dinner, maybe?” Totally forgetting the situation with her partner, Kai turned around to face him. “Wha?” Her face turned completely red, and she simply answered. “Uh-huh...” Oh my gosh! He actually asked me! Wow! I have to get ready!! She ran off, leaving Mai and Makaze wide-eyed and confused.”Eh...I take it 7:00 sounds good...” The two looked at each other and looked back at Kai, who was skipping down the way. “She always run off like that?”

Stupid door, why can’t you just open?! Sheesh! I just get a new place and it won’t open!! The over-stressed cop cursed and struggled with the door. Noise from the next-door apartment came out the door, a group of kids came out and shyly smiled. “Kai! How’s the quick draw doing today?” One of the boys turned red when she smiled and rolled her eyes. “I’m fine, boys.” Aw stupid door! OPEN!! Please! If I have to listen to these bumbling idiots any longer- The door quickly opened, she dropped her bag to the floor and shut it behind her. The clean and sweet-smelling room made her sigh with relief. Ah home....It’s been a long day! In no time, she was stripped down to her work shirt and undergarments, watering the many plants that captivated her dwelling. The rooms were well furnished, carpet was freshly vacuumed and Tokyo’s finest art hung on her walls. At the age of 17, this girl was pretty much in the height of her career, which easily paid off her expenses. After finishing the watering, she was sprawled out on the floor, looking up at the ceiling. Makaze. I’m so glad you’re back from America! It’s been so long... Thoughts of the past came into mind, as the tired cop closed her eyes.

It’s been a year since we lost Vanessa to the past in his old time machine. She was our friend, but she was a bad-cop. She tried to kill Kenou and I that day-and If I haven’t pushed her into the void, Mai would have been dead. The fate of the Force was in my hands and I chose the station over a friend’s life. Vanessa said she had a plan to change our time, something about the legendary Gundams. Makaze has been working on his new machine to allow Mai and I to save her- But...does she want to be saved? And what will I do when I see her, save her life- or destroy it? When the time comes, can I ensure her safety around me? Before she want back, she fired her gun at Makaze and I jumped in the way. I almost died for my friends- especially Mai. She has to come back here and pay for her crimes, but I don’t know if I’ll allow her to try that again...Will I try to be judge, jury and executioner when she finally is in my hands?

Startled by her stomach growling, she at up and walked to the kitchen. Now that I think about it, didn’t clean my house last night. That means that stupid- “Mame! You bastard!” The refrigerator was opened and Kai stomped her foot. It was empty, all but a note that read:
                      Quick Draw, Babe!
I had a lot of paper work to do and I decided to stay last night. I used your computer and took the liberty of eating all your food, so I cleaned up the house. Beware: Your office is a mess, the printer wanted to eat me or something, and your stupid voice controlled computer didn’t accept my voice so I had to hack into it. The reinstall program is somewhere on the desk, hope you had a good day, and what’s for dinner? See you when I get home!

Your bestest friend in the world,
                                                 Mame
P.S. Duo is out of cat food too....and NO I DID NOT EAT IT!

“Stupid Mame! Cant you eat and plant your mass somewhere else?!” After realizing that no matter how much she yelled and swore, nothing could keep her best friend the pickpocket from eating her food, she slammed it shut and stormed into her office. Papers were strung out all over the floor, and being in the angry hurry she was in, she slipped and fell on her side. “Computer on!”
Flashing lights filled the room as she sat up and looked up at her overhead screen. There was some static, but nothing to fret over. Her programmed voice came out the speakers. “Identify.” Piece of Junk! Mame is officially stupid! I don’t need to reprogram.... “Kai Kizui.....confirm.” She stood there, tapping her foot, waiting for it’s response. “Kai. Name confirmed. Define service needed.”
“Phone log.” Kai was tapping on the keypad, her blue eyes narrowed on the screen. “Open messages.” She walked out of the room and went onto her well, not-so-clean room. A little black kitten was perched on her dresser. “Mew!” He woke up and opened his eyes. The little black collar with spike studs on his neck made clicking noises as he stretched. “My, Duo! How was my baby’s nap?” The tiny cat jumped and landed with a thud in her arms. “Mew!” His blue eyes were clouded with sleep, (seeing how he was sleeping all day) and his fur was matted to one side. The computer’s voice answered, *finally* which scared Kai and the cat in her arms. “You have 17 messages.” She stared at the screen, and Duo crawled up to her head and curled up in a ball. With the weight on her head, she walked back to her office. “Read. Start with the first 15.” She went on her way back to the kitchen. I bet you a million dollars, Duo- Mai left about 95% of those messages. If they are all about how she burnt her buns in the oven, I will send her to the crazy house!
“Hi!!” Mai’s voice rang out. “Mai here. I have to tell you something! Kenou wants us to meet her and Makaze at the station tonight. She tried to catch up with you, but faster than the speed of a bullet, you were off. Sooooooo Makaze wants to have dinner wi-“ Her voice was cut off and continued on the last message. “Like I said, Makaze want’s to have dinner with you? How cute!!! So are you going to-“ It was cut off again and Kai’s jaw dropped. Don’t say what I think you’re going to say. Don’t you say it!! “Are you two going to Bump uglies?! Who-hoo, go KAI!!” *sweatdrop* What a jerk..... Kai jumped into her closet, fiddled around in it and came out wearing her school uniform. Well, good enough.....gotta go! Mai’s voice went on. “You need to meet us at 6:00....k? Ja!”
“6:00?! That’s in 20 minutes! What the hell, Mai?!” Kai’s eyebrow twitched as she gently set Duo down. After kissing his head, “Bye sweetie! I’ll bring you back a treat!” she was out the door.
