Amy and chris
Amy and Chris crept in among the shadows of the latest base, duffel bags full of
hand-made bombs weighing them down. The air seemed to spark in an electric excitement for the showdown between Mina and Hayley was fiercely taking place within the walls of the establishment.
"It shall be my greatest performance," Amy announced quietly as they stopped upon a heavy metal door.
"You’re demented, you know that?" Chris grumpily replied as he poked and prodded at the door-jam with his fine tools. He detested the fact that he was losing precious sleep over blowing up some stupid base. He knew, however, the purposes of their missions, which far
overweighed any personal need of his.
"Bombs and music go beautifully together," came his sister’s protested whisper as the door slowly opened up to darkness and definite danger ahead.
"Whatever," Chris muttered as he unzipped his duffel bag. "Let’s go."
The two disappeared inside the building, moving like cats among the jagged shadows of
the corridors. They slapped detonators along the walls of their target of destruction, knowing
that the others were doing the same elsewhere while the pilots were preparing their gundams for
attack. Sweet, haunting music filled Amy’s ears from her diskman as she worked; fine music she
composed herself for the soul purpose of the night’s activities.

Soon the two finished, unnoticed, and took their positions outside at a safe distance
from the base. Amy whipped out her talk radio as the music played,
contacting Sean in preparation for the explosion.
Chris stood with his talk radio as almost everyone checked in, with the exception of Adam,
who was said to have died by the hands of Hayley, ready for the
grand finale. "Is Mina out?" Amy heard her brother shout in the speaker as
the music ringing in her ears rose to a building crescendo. "She hasn’t checked in. Is she out?"
The radio received a worried glare from Chris as he tapped the receiver with his index
finger, hearing nothing but static on Mina’s line. He opened his mouth to speak again when a
faint, but clearly definite voice broke through the snowy hisses. "She’ll be fine. Detonate the bombs."
Chris blinked, surprised, as he stared in puzzlement down at the radio. That was
unmistakingly Heero’s voice. But wasn’t he suppose to be getting his gundam
ready for attack?!How did he get Mina’s line? He glanced at his sister, who was staring
impatiently at him with those earphones over her ears. The boy turned timidly back to the device in
his hand.
"H-Heero?"
"You heard what I said," came the sure tone. "Detonate!"
Then the line went dead.
Impatient eyes were upon him as Chris looked at his sister once more. Confusion swirled
noisily in his head, interrupting him from his thoughts, his sense of
things. He nodded his head once to Amy, despite his bewilderment, and she faced the base boldly with the radio clutched
tightly in her hand, signaling Sean to detonate the bombs.

Nothing could have been more perfect as the trees around the base danced to the rhythm of her music and the wind pulsated with the beat against her body. The orchestra was reaching its climatic point, the one note where every single instrument blared in a beautifully
triumphant, relieving harmony. It wasn’t until that moment that she pressed the precious red button to activate the bombs. The massive explosion and fierce glare seemed to blend perfectly with the music, completing the song like nothing else could of Operation Mizu-iwa.

No one knew that Mina never checked in.

Thus, she found herself gazing out the window from a space shuttle, a year later, on her way to the next colony to perform her music. The stars blended with the reflection of her sad face on the window as she recalled what had happened so many nights ago. When the smoke had cleared and the fires had calmed, all the heroes had stood in a cluster,
radiant smiles on their faces as the dawn of a new age fell upon them. Duo, however, kept a grim
face, unusual for his carefree nature. It wasn’t until after everyone took note of who was present
that they knew why.Mina was nowhere to be seen. Amy had immediately blamed herself, knowing that she built the bombs that
destroyed the base, and Mina for that matter. She was comforted by everyone, for they knew that no one was to blame for the startling
discovery. Everyone had gotten the same message from Heero as Chris did, so they all assumed that Mina was out, safe and
sound. The perfect soldier himself had disappeared before anyone could question him, never to be seen again with the exception of Duo, who kept their meetings to himself. Everyone went off into their own separate worlds, all assuming that Mina was dead. Deep down in
their hearts, however, they each knew that it couldn’t be the case. Mina, the crafty and cunning warrior, could not
have slipped away from existence just like that....right?

Amy kept in touch with everyone as best as she could, but her messages eventually dwindled to nothing except for the occasional news of her brother, Doris, and Quatre. No one had seen Mina for a year. Everyone wondered if perhaps they ever would. Amy had
spent her time completing the greatest composition ever created by her mind and hands. She was ready to compose
her masterpiece for the first time, at Mina’s home-colony, in honor of the courageous friend lost. The piece, sacred in her hands, was entitled "Mina’s Rhapsody".
